"What is a Paint-Out, anyway?", you may ask. I can answer that....
A Paint-Out is a planned event where several artist converge at a given location. They will set up their easels, paints and canvas (es) or other items and create art in situ.
This is called in art circles "plein air"
The work created can be of anything contained at the location. It can be of something big or small. ie the Machledt House in total or something very small such as a daffodil growing in a flower box. That is how it works. Visitors come to discover just how art is created and just how a living artist "sees" his/her world. Be it celebrated in a life-like landscape or an abstract display of vivid raw colors flowing across a canvas. Some may even work in clay and use sculpture as their creative outlet. The artists interpret their vision and you can observe the artists create and converse with them as they work if you wish. All in all we had a great turnout with over 22 artists attending and many visitors roaming the grounds of the Machledt Home and enjoying the food and fellowship in the warm & sunny Spring Day. The finale of the day was an awards show to select 1st, 2nd, 3rd and honorable places. These were selected by the visitors voting by way of purchased tickets which were placed in a sack corresponding to the artist's number. This event was held as a fund-raiser for The Southside Art League & The Riley Art Therapy Program.
Please view the albums listed above to get a flavor of the event.

We hope to see you next year if you missed us this time. John R. Spurr - EPID
